Description

The VADEN ORIGINAL 1100 330 001 is a brand new single-cylinder, water-cooled air brake compressor for the Detroit Diesel DD15. It fits straight out of the box — no machining, no setting up, no preparation. Built with a water-cooled cylinder head, through drive and the ESS energy saving system.

Why this compressor

Predictable quality. Every part, from crankcase to valve plate, is produced to a single drawing. The unit you fit to the thousandth truck is dimensionally the same as the first, so your shop never gets a surprise on the bench.

One source, full coverage. The same manufacturer supplies the complete unit and every rebuild component behind it, from cylinder head to crankshaft. You are not hunting for parts at the next overhaul.

Proven scale. VADEN is an independent heavy-vehicle manufacturer with its own R&D centre and test laboratory, supplying more than 11,000 part numbers to over 110 countries.

Keeps the truck earning. Fitting a complete unit cuts bench time and gets the vehicle back on the road the same day.

Specifications

Bore Ø92.0 mm (3.62 in). Stroke 54.0 mm (2.13 in). Swept volume 360 cm³ (22.0 cu in). Theoretical displacement 15.9 CFM at 1250 rpm and 25.4 CFM at 2000 rpm. Dry weight 19.8 kg (43.7 lb). Single cylinder, water-cooled cylinder head, through drive, ESS energy saving system. Theoretical displacement is swept volume multiplied by crankshaft speed — when comparing two compressors, make sure both figures are on the same basis and at the same rpm.

Which trucks it fits

The Detroit DD15 is the volume line-haul engine in the Freightliner Cascadia, and the same engine family is also specified in Western Star chassis and Freightliner vocational models. Because one engine appears across several chassis, model years and specification variants, the chassis name alone is not enough — confirm the order against the OE number on the unit you are removing.

Cross-reference

Bendix BA-921, Freightliner K034655 and K035912X, Mercedes-Benz 472 130 00 15 / 05 15 / 08 15 / 11 15 (with the A prefix: A4721300015, A4721300515, A4721300815, A4721301115). A Mercedes-Benz number on a Detroit application is not an error: the Detroit heavy-duty engine platform shares its design lineage with the Mercedes-Benz heavy-duty family, and the compressor carries the Mercedes-Benz number with a Freightliner service number applied over it.

Four checks before you order

To make sure the right part arrives: 1) The OE number stamped on the body — the only reliable identifier. 2) Single or twin cylinder: a twin has two discharge ports and a wider crankcase. 3) Cooling: a water-cooled head has two coolant ports, an air-cooled head has none. 4) Through drive: if an accessory is driven behind the compressor, the machined rear flange is essential.

Is it time to replace

Slow air build-up, frequent cycling, oil in the air system, a discharge line running hotter than normal, knocking under load and an air dryer purging more often than it should are all replacement signals. A compressor that is passing oil will contaminate the dryer cartridge, the valves and the modulators if left in service, turning a single-component job into an air-system overhaul. Replacing on time is the cheapest option. Before fitting the new unit, clear any carbon restriction in the discharge line and renew a saturated dryer cartridge.

Complete units and rebuild parts

VADEN supplies both routes. A complete new unit is the fastest fix. Where the crankcase and crankshaft are sound and the failure is confined to the head, valve plate or unloader, component rebuild is equally possible: cylinder head, valve plate, complete repair kit, gasket and seal kit, piston and ring set, cylinder liner set, crankshaft, crankshaft flange, unloader kit and individual valves. Dimensional data and the technical drawing are in the Documents section; rebuild parts are listed under Related Products.

VADEN is an independent heavy-vehicle aftermarket manufacturer. Detroit Diesel, DD15, Freightliner, Cascadia, Western Star, Bendix and Mercedes-Benz are trademarks of their respective owners and are referenced here solely to indicate compatibility. VADEN parts are not original equipment. Fitment must be verified against the OE number stamped on the part being replaced.
